Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology
Oral and maxillofacial radiology is the specialty of dentistry and the discipline of radiology concerned with the production and interpretation of radiological images, including CT and magnetic resonance imaging, that are used for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the mouth, face and jaws.
An oral and maxillofacial radiologist is a dentist who studies and interprets radiographic images of conditions that affect the head, neck, face, and jaws. To become an OMR, a dentist must complete a residency from an American Dental Association accredited program. This training includes complete knowledge about the techniques and interpretation of CT, CBCT, MRI, maxillofacial, ultrasound and other relevant modalities.
